Rich Roll has been our favorite podcast ever since we read his book ‘Finding Ultra’. In this book, he talks about his transformation from entertainment lawyer and recovering alcoholic to ultra runner, health advocate and podcast host.
His story began on the eve of his 40th birthday. Not being able to climb a flight of stairs without stopping for a breath has put him on the journey of changing his eating habits and starting to exercise more.
In 2008, he became the first vegan that finished Ultraman (he was in top 10).
*The Ultraman World Championship is an athletic odyssey of personal rediscovery. Covering a total distance of 320 miles (515 kilometers), on the Big Island of Hawaii, it requires that each participant completes a 6.2 mile (10 K) open ocean swim, a 261.4 mile (421 K) cross-country bike ride, and a 52.4 mile (84 K) ultra-marathon run.
In 2009, he went back and finished it again, despite his injury (6th place overall).
His other book, ‘The Plantpower Way’, is also a part of our library. It has more than 120 delicious, easy-to-prepare whole food recipes, including hearty breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, plus healthy and delicious smoothies and juices, and decadent desserts.
In his podcast, he has a wide range of guests, from ordinary people and their success stories of personal transformation to celebrities like Jack Canfield (author of’ Chicken soup for the soul’ and number of other self-help books), Arianna Huffington (CEO of Huffington Post), Russell Simmons (Hip-hop mogul and CEO of number of fashion and music companies) and Dean Karnazes (one of the most accomplished ultrarunners in the world). We really love his non-militant, laid-back and down to earth approach to food, spirituality, fitness…
In every new episode “Rich delves deep into all things wellness with some of the brightest and most forward-thinking, paradigm-busting minds in health, fitness, nutrition, art, entertainment, entrepreneurship and spirituality.” In his own words, his podcast is “designed to provoke, educate, inspire and empower you to discover, uncover, unlock and unleash your best, most authentic self”.
We highly recommend it.
